E-collection is an educational, ethnographic collection created over at least 2 years of methodical work, including focus group in-depth interviews, study visits and seminars summarising actions and effects. The main idea behind the project is to create an ethnographic e-collection with a separate storeroom/exhibition, content such as animations and films for young visitors attracted by new technologies.
In late 2017 and early 2018, the project brought the first in Poland ethnographic, educational exhibition “Expedition ‘88” – a voice in the discussion on the nature of tradition and heritage, and the beginning of the innovative collection of contemporary objects. The exhibits touch upon different aspects of everyday life in the late 1980s. Together, they form a “laboratory,” which transports visitors to 1988, contrasting that reality – not so distant – with our contemporary times. The exhibition was also presented during Łódź Design Festival in Centrum Spotkania Kultur in Lublin, and in Zamek w Janowcu (a branch of Nadwiślańskie Museum).
Two open seminars with experts were held as part of the project: “Animating objects” and “The potential of collections and collecting. Projecting visitor experiences.” Other events planned for the project will be carried out before 2019.
The “Ethnographic, educational collection” (E-collection) project is carried out in 2017-2018 in the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw as part of the “Folk and traditional culture” project by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and thanks to Mazovia Voivodeship Regional Council’s funding.
