A year of rituals with Wikipedia

Local Polish customs in the largest online encyclopedia

Regional Polish traditions in the Internet’s largest encyclopaedia.

The “A Year of Rituals with Wikipedia” project focused on co-operative field studies conducted by employees of the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, editors and photographers of Wikimedia Poland Association and volunteers – ethnographers and culture experts from various Polish universities and institutions.  The project aimed to enhance Wikipedia’s database with accurate and correct entries discussing selected unique Polish folk customs

Project participants conducted media literacy workshops for small town inhabitants. Additionally, all the photos, videos and documents (texts about traditions published on Wikipedia) produced during the project were made accessible under open licence on Wikipedia. They may be used to create open education resources. Moreover, a virtual exhibition and a DVD with films and a publication documenting the project were also created.

The project coordinator was Klara Sielicka-Baryłka.
