Fumigation services

The State Museum of Ethnography in Warsaw offers fumigation services.

At the Department of Storage and Conservation of Collections at the State Museum of Ethnography in Warsaw, we carry out disinfection and disinfestation of heritage objects in a fumigation chamber using S-9 sterilising gas (a mixture of ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide). The service covers items such as paintings, sculptures, textiles, books, documents, prints, ceramics, and movable interior furnishings. Our clients include public offices, libraries, museums, archives, and private individuals.

The entire disinfection process, including the “airing” of objects, lasts approximately five days when the whole chamber is used. The speed of processing smaller orders depends on completing additional orders required to fill the remaining chamber space. The chamber measures 71.5 × 71.5 × 144 cm (width × height × depth). Its capacity allows for a single load of up to 0.73 m³ or approx. 5.6 linear metres of files in A4 format packed in archival boxes.

The service price is calculated based on the chamber loading volume and the external dimensions of the packaging in which the objects are delivered. Upon completion, we issue a report containing the process parameters and the order volume.

Important: objects may not be wrapped in foil, and they must not contain any lead components.
