A workshop on how to read the world critically.
During the session, we will examine the sources of our knowledge of the world. Does Africa really look the way it is shown in the media, school textbooks, and popular culture? Together, we will identify stereotypes about the African continent. We will examine simplified narratives and discuss the role of museums, mass culture, and education in reinforcing them. We will visit the exhibition Bleaching and discuss the construction of race, colonialism, and mechanisms of power. This lesson does not offer ready-made answers but shows how to ask the right questions and notice what is often overlooked.
