Classes on the history, art, and identity of the Lemkos/Carpatho-Rusyns.
The classes will focus on a guided tour of the exhibition “Forms of Presence. The Art of the Lemkos / Carpatho-Rusyns.” During the lesson, we will jointly define the concept of identity and examine its cultural and social dimensions. We will discuss the work of artists belonging to ethnic minorities of the Carpathians, as well as the historical conditions of their activity, the experience of exclusion, and the mechanisms of marginalization. The starting point for the discussion will be Operation “Vistula,” carried out in the years 1947–1950.
