A workshop on how rural life is perceived.
A workshop exploring cultural and social perceptions of the countryside and the peasant community in the 19th and 20th centuries. We will discuss how stereotypes about rural life appear in visual culture and language. We will reflect on how the rural myth was created – did natural order, simplicity, and authenticity truly prevail there? What consequences did this have for the perception of so-called “folk culture”? This session develops skills in critical analysis and in interpreting cultural narratives.
